I Have 2 of these running pfsense.. They are GREAT, cheap and feature packed.
These are really good for what they are, dedicated hardware to runFreeBSD/linux etc. based firewall/router os's(I guess you could also run windows on them to but I dont get the use case there..)Running these boxes with a Samsung 8gb ram (part# M471A1K43CB1-CTD) and a 128gb LEVEN JMS600 msata SSD on pfsense with 3 lan ports running 1gbps with a 2.5gbps wan backbone to my fiber drop. The cpu barely edges the above 10%... when Im doing a lot on multiple prots at the sa,e time. But I have never seen over 20% when TRYING to stress test it.They are "plug and play" with pfsense's "memstick" installer.... they just work.I have even tested a few Athros chipset wifi cards with it and go it working but this was more of a "what if" test build... But I did build a working wifi AP/router/firewall combo with this box and a athros wifi card and and pfsense. They are rock solid stable so far... I have had them up and running for over 2 weeks with zero issues. The BIOS menus are a bit what I would call "non-standard".. but once you figure it out got used to it it works and its fine.My only "complaint" if you could call it that is that these do run hot... pfsense shows the CPU temp sensor stays around 50-55° but they "feel" warmer then that in the case etc.... so I am a little concerned about the longevity of the other components ... but no fans has a huge upside of no dust, no noise.I tested laying a Noctua 80mm fan on top of the case fins and running it off the power in port and it cooled it right down... A 5volt silent 60mm fan mounted to it running of a USB port might be an ideal solution if this is a problem.. I might do this in the future or if one of them dies from thermal issues but the passive cooling of the case seems to be doing its job and the CPU definitely runs a lot cooler and equivalent I5-I7 and well within its operating parameters...All and all these are a great deal and they work... their build quality seems vg-exe and I have yet to run into any of the deal breakers I found in the 3-4 other lan device type systems I have tested, used and returned...The 1st one of these i I bought.. i kept... i tested and put into production...Then I bought a 2nd one for testing and having a hot /cold spare.

Great for OPNsense
I bought a couple of these to replace an aging Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 4. I really liked the Ubiquiti (I had owned the EdgeRouter X before that), but I was curious about OPNsense.OPNsense had a bit of a learning curve, but so did Ubiquiti. You probably already know that though if you're shopping around for a dedicated firewall box. To me, this served the purpose very well. I love that there are four 2.5Gb ports built in and that there is a barebones option to add the HDD and memory that will meet your specific needs.I debated virtualizing OPNsense on Proxmox or doing a bare metal install. In the end, I wound up going the Proxmox route and I'm glad that I did. I don't really like the thought of having something else sitting in between my firewall and the Internet, but I dampened my concerns a bit by doing PCI passthrough on the 3 NICs that I used for the firewall (2 WAN, 1 LAN trunk, and the 4th port I'm using as Proxmox management). There were a couple of big benefits for me to using Proxmox as I got up to speed with OPNsense.... I could quickly take snapshots before I made big changes, and I could set up Ubuntu VMs on the same HUNSN RJ03 box and assign them to whatever VLAN I needed to test things out with. The HUNSN box handled it great. I had two or three Ubuntu VMs going at a time as well as OPNsense and it kept up great. There was of course a little lag in the Ubuntu VMs because I was giving them 1 core and 2MB of memory, but for testing out basic "can this box see that box" scenarios, it was perfect.I have a 1Gb fiber connection and a second 500Mb one and have them set up in a load balanced manner on this box. I have logging enabled on all firewall rules (and I have a ton of them on top of a very partitioned network with way more VLANs than I will admit to publicly) and OPNsense on this HUNSUN box coasts like it isn't doing anything. Super impressed!Anyway, I liked the original HUNSN RJ03 so much that I put another one on my Amazon gift list for x-mas and happily received it (after my non-nerdy wife verified "are you sure that's what you want??" Yes. Yes it is.

Works really well with OPNsense
I added 16Gig of memory and a 500gig M.2 NVMe drive. This is a super overkill for OPNsene on a home network. I use about 1% of the drive and 10% of the Ram. The drive and memory were so cheap it made no sense to smaller. OPNsense boots very quickly under this hardware configuration. The system runs around 1 to 5 percent CPU utilization most of the time.It did not come with a manual, but I contacted the seller, and they provided docs within a few hours. I was surprised by how quickly they responded. The only issue is temperature reporting. The system reports it is running around 40.1 degrees centigrade at Zero utilization. I don't think the readings are correct. If I boot to the BIOS, it reports running around 35 Degrees with no fans and 30 to 31 degrees with fans on at ZERO noise levels. If I crank up the fans, it gets to 29 degrees. The high-temperature reading must be a bug in OPNsense. I will need to research if there is a package that gives better heat readings.Update: The Temp ranges on OPNsense are now averaging around 35 degrees centigrade. If I use a heat sensor, the temps are even lower. The temp of the heat sync on the M.2 card is at 26 decrees. The fans are probably over kill but I like my equipment running cool.

OPNSense & AdGuard
RJ03 Works great with OPNSense along with AdGuard as a plugin. Passive heat dissipation is good, and active (with cooling fan) made it great. HUNSN customer service was quick to reply to questions.

Works like it should. OPNsense on deck
I purchased version without SSD and memory so I installed following parts:- (CT2K8G4SFRA32A) Crucial DDR4 SODIMM 2x8GB 3200- (CT500P3SSD8) Crucial P3 500GB M.2 SSDOS installed is OPNsense 24.1 and works fine, no issues at all.In my case Turbo was OFF so CPU was running on 2GHz, if you want 2,9GHz in Turbo you need to enable it in BIOS....or it was just in my case.Support is awesome, big brands can learn something from them. When I was serching in internet about this Mini PC I notice that some people had active cooling installed 40mm or 80mm fan. I asked support about it and they send without problems "fan kit" in case you need it. Very quick response on messages and detiled explanations about everything you ask.
