Kumon Grade 1 Writing (Kumon Writing Workbooks) Paperback – June 1, 2013

I recently bought a phonics workbook for my first grader, and it's been a hit! The book's colorful and child-friendly design immediately caught my child's attention. From the moment we received it, my child couldn't wait to dive in and has already completed five lessons independently.The workbook is printed on high-quality paper, which adds to its durability and makes it comfortable for reading. This is a great book. Increases in difficulty in the Kumon style. However, I feel like your child must be a confident reader to work alone in this book. If they are not a strong reader, it will not be independent learning true to the Kumon Method. They recommend using the Rhyming skills books with this one but I saw the Phonics series as more helpful. My son was able to recognize and sound out the words easier. My 5yr old homeschooled son used this.

This is a great book to help struggling readers my girls got through this in a month and I just ordered grade 2 because I saw a difference. I just began homeschooling and decided the both had to start out at grade level 1 even though they are not in those actual grades. Most of it was easy for a 2nd and 4th grader but they were challenged by the end. Most important for me is that I see growth and I decided to move on to the next level. We also have the grade 2 Reading and grade 1 Geometry and Measurement. Right now they really help for boosting the skills they have already acquired and filling in learning gaps.
