There was plenty of support for the middle but not much at the ends. When opened the base has been slightly dented and was also slightly loose. The dent is small and you have to know its there to see it. I have fitted the light with two 10w LED daylight lights with is the same as 150w tungstan and it looks fantastic and gives a lovely light across the room. It's now moved house with me twice and still not had to change the bulbs, so rather sturdy too.
