This Album Is So Real!
Mandy Moore's debut album at just 15 years old is a fresh start for a young singer like her to pop onto the music scene with a clean image that's not too racy or too childish. It's the perfect mix of teen pop that the pop music scene needs at its time being with the sound of Mandy's first single, "Candy", which was a big hit when it first hit the air waves of radio and TV. The follow-up single, "Walk Me Home", is a sweet and yet, romantic teen love sound that almost everyone can relate to in a song like that. "So Real", which is probably the third single, is one of the songs that just makes you want to get up and dance with its sweet pop sound. This isn't a bad project for Mandy to have started out on as a young adult at the tender age of 15 with a mature side of pop music with this debut album that makes her voice ring true to how this album should sound like at its time, and from this album on, Mandy's on a roll to becoming one of the future's most hottest female singers around, alongside Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears.

Generic '90s teen pop.
Somewhat incensed by one magazine's declaration that Moore is "most likely to end up a popcorn seller at a porn theater" (she's 15, for crying out loud), I checked out the album. And sure, it's not great music, but it is at least a first musical step for a young artist with some spirit. The song lyrics aren't nearly as bad as those Eric Foster White-concocted Britney Spears atrocities like "Soda Pop" and "E-Mail My Heart", and Moore's only real fault as a singer is that she tries too much for R&B singing, despite not having the vocal strength to support her attempts at technique. The musical backdrop as about as generic as they come, Moore's producers reaching into that same old, tired bag of tricks that all '90s teen-pop producers are beating to death. The use of echo on lead-vocal tracks on verses, stiff soulless hip-hop beats that emulate the worst rap artists, having the drumbeat stop on the last bar of a chorus (ludicrously overused device), and so on. And Moore, like so many other young singers eg. Christina Aguilera, confuse "soulful" with "nasal", usually singing from either her nose or the top of her throat, resulting in an annoying parody of R&B vocalization that sounds more squeaky than anything else. It's a shame so many singers take after Shaznay T. Lewis (All Saints) in faking the R&B voice when they don't have one.Just for the energy and spunk, I'd give this one a shaky 3. Two and a half would be more like it: Not terrible, but far from great.

the innocence of Mandy Moore is so real is sweet as candy!
Mandy Moore is the innocent one of the 4 pop princesses of 1999 along with Jessica Simpson's virgin image. Mandy hit the scene in december of 1999 with top 40 single Candy and since then has made numerous albums guest appearances movies and shows but Mandy will always be remembered as the girl who's missin you like Candy. Most people adorded this album some thought is was a pop catastrophe and copy of miss Britney's 1999 hit single and album ...Baby One More Time. I personally like Britney, Christina, Mandy, and Jessica but Mandy isn't my favorite of the four but I like her songs Candy, So Real, What You Want, Walk Me Home, and Lock Me In Your Heart.Okay so many people who bought the album or looked her up is mostly into her hit single Candy but I love this and Walk Me Home the most the song is a great pop debut and the video is amazing points on the singing.(5/5)So Real is the title and lead single on the album but not her first single which it should have been because it's more edgier and not just poppy like Candy and her video for it was toally awesome.(4/5)What You Want starts with kinda like a hypnotize theme with I love to love you and then it explodes into the chorus and finishs off with as long as you love me and even though it wasn't a single it should have been and it would have given Mandy an innocent yet edgy image. personally not my favorite but good.(3/5)Walk Me Home and Candy are the two best singles. Walke Me Home is a nice little ballad that shys away from the whole pop image and talks about Mandy want her boyfriend to walk her home not let her feel alone. I saw both of the 2 versions of the video for the song and the rare hard to find original one is on dailymotion and is personally better and my favorite of the two versions.(5/5)Lock Me In Your Heart is a nice pop slash R&B feel type song with the beginning and the song is about Mandy wanting her boyfriend to lock her in his heart and throw away the key.(4/5)Even though Mandy wasn't as big as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera she established her place in the music biz as the innocent yet not to young girl who's missin you like candy and with this album you will get the feeling you felt at 13-15 and even kids now at 13-15.

... know most people would say Mandy's debut album wasn't great, but I actually loved listening to it
I know most people would say Mandy's debut album wasn't great, but I actually loved listening to it. Some songs can be repetitive but I don't mind. She was only 15 at the time which explains why some of the song's material featured on this album suited the perspective on the themes of adolescence, young love, virginity, and innocence. A 90's music gem to my liking. Mainly I got this cause Mandy Moore is one of my favourite female singers and actresses. I don't regret getting this. I like this a lot.

It was only one of the CD's that survived the wreck and it had a bad scratch and wouldn't play for her
It was a gift for a gal that suffered brain damage in a tragic car accident. It was only one of the CD's that survived the wreck and it had a bad scratch and wouldn't play for her. She loves it and plays it often. Thanks so much.
