Recertified, not new, but still a bargain and comes with warranty
Installed and worked immediately, no fuss. Drive size was as stated. Also as stated it is a 5700RPM drive so it is very quiet - some minor head access clicks under load but when spun up idling it is certainly well below the 35dB noticeable level, and I'd guess below 30dB. I slept through the night with it spun up idling in the same room, no problem. This is a recertified drive issued with a full 1 year warranty. So it isn't brand new (1 star deducted for not making this clear), but it is under a decent warranty. It has been refurbished by the original manufacturer - who, let's face it, won't be Sonnics but will be one of the big hard drive factories such as Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi etc. If it fails in the first year, you'll get a refund or replacement. So does it really matter? As with so many things, it depends. Any hard drive can fail and you should always have a backup strategy regardless of whether you spend a fortune or pennies. In my mind there's the thought that "this is a drive that someone has already returned" but whether it was returned as faulty and got fixed, or whether it simply got returned as unsold stock, I have no idea.It certainly is fantastic value for money. Ten or fifteen quid cheaper than any other 1-year-warranty 1TB hard drive. And Sonnics is a reasonably well established British company offering that warranty, which does somehow give me a little more peace of mind.I'm using it as one of a pair of RAID1 mirrored drives on a Linux server. If it dies, the other drive in the pair will carry on until I get a warranty replacement. Also I take monthly backups. Would I trust it as the sole drive on an important system or in a PC for a friend who isn't good at backups? To be honest, probably not.As secondary storage for stuff that either doesn't matter, or for which I have backups or could easily re-download? An absolute bargain. Recommended.Update: Two and a half years later, this drive is still going just fine.

Great hard drive for a desktop pc.
Brought this a year ago for my desktop PC, and it is still working to this day. Hopefully it will come back into stock for everyone else to get a hold of as I would highly recommend.

This is so good!
I am surprised just how good it is and am thankful to the previous reviewers, whose positive reviews was the only reason I took a chance on this drive.

It works well as a cost effective external storage device.
I have used this drive as a cost effective external storage device, and it has performed that function well.

Wasted 36 hours trying to get this to work.
Originally purchased for cctv dvr but the dvr couldn't format it. Tried the hard drive in my pc and that wouldn't work either. Spend 36 hours trying various different things and researching problems with no success.
