And thorough history (and stories) of the Federal Witness Protection Program. I very much enjoyed it. Not dry…. Just a lit of material.

Really interesting read.
I had always wondered how/when WITSEC was started. This book has answered a lot of questions with some great stories about both the Marshals who did the work and the people who went into the program. Stories both good and bad. An honest, true account (good and bad) of WITSEC.

Best Book Ever!
Witsec is the most exciting book I've ever read next to Dan Brown's series. Although the names and locations have been changed for protection, this book is the only book I've ever read which speaks about the Witness Protection program ran by the US Marshals Service. This book gives an outstanding history on how Witness Protection was created, the struggles for approval, what they did while the program was fully implemented, and how it's used today. I really enjoyed reading about the stories on how people's live were affected by the Witness Protection Program and how big criminals were and can be taken down and dismantled. For those interested in a career with the US Marshals or the FBI, I would highly recommend reading this book. It's worth every penny.

It 's fun to read
Witsec is a synopsis, if u will of Gerald Shur's Carrier of 34 years. It 's fun to read. It also gives a brief understanding of how things work between the FBI, Marshalls & DEA. ALSO it gives us the Public an understanding of what US Marshall Service 's all about. I did learn a lot. The book 's well put together with the help of the Journalist Pete Early. The Book 's a Good read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.

Federal agencies attract decent and intelligent employees now and then
This is a very interesting and quick read. For me, the most interesting theme is about how federal employees and agencies hinder each other because of personal ego problems, political crap, and limited resources. Not surprising was how inefficient and bumbling the agencies could be. Some witnesses waited over 6 months for their new id....

Witsec was the perfect help for the research I needed to do in writing my novel. I think anyone would find it an interesting read. Setting the program up was no simple thing, nor is it a pleasant solution for those who have to enter it (though preferable to death at the hand of their enemies!). Very informative, very interesting, and gives you huge appreciation for how it helps bring criminals to justice by preserving the lives of witnesses.

A brilliantly detailed insight into the U.S. Witness Protection Program
I imagine this is a go-to book for anyone interested in this topic.Much of it written fictional style, by the author Pete Earley beginning with Gerald Shur's involvement in the instigation of WITSEC, right through to his retirement. The Witness X Personal story, involving Angela, Sal and their families is particularly harrowing and details what the innocent parties have to endure when their "Loved Ones" are involved in testifying against the mob. Angela barely survived the experience and two of her children didn't.Also incredibly interesting when Shur and his very loyal wife eventually have to partially enter the programme themselves, and Shur finds out first hand what it is like to be part of the program, the lies, inconvenience and the constant looking over his shoulder while worrying about his wife who is an innocent bystander. So bad an experience for him that he exits the program ahead of time.WITSEC, a necessary evil unfortunately, is one of the points that shone through for me after reading.A very enjoyable read.

A good read.
I enjoy most books about the American criminals, and it's prisons, so this book has a different angle. I read the book, eventually, but the author, who helped start up WITSEC , seemed to want to take all the credit, for basically, everything. His writing did get irritating, as it was 'me, me, me.' 'I did this, I did that.' Maybe written by someone else, this may have been an excellent read.

Highly recommended
I bought this book as part of my research for writing a movie. Turns out just about every chapter would make a movie on its own. A real eye-opener, and entertaining too.
