Tritan has chemical resistance and maintains its integrity in environments where other materials may degrade. Extraction tests completed by independent, third-party researchers verify that Tritan meets all requirements as set forth by organizations including FDA food safety standards, European Community food safety standards, Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare, and California Prop. 65. Use Caution in Using these Bottles
I purposely ordered 2 jugs like this because they claimed to be BPA free. When I received them, I looked at the number at thebottom and it says #7. This means that any chemical could have been used to make this plastic bottle. It might be BPA free and itmight not be. I am returning the bottles and am very upset.I am including information about the numbers that are safe and not safe to use."Honestly, you should really stay away from plastics, but that can be difficult in such a plastic heavy society. If you are going to use them, you need to remember which are less hazardous. To summarize, plastics in categories #2, #4 and #5 are generally considered safe. Be weary of putting them in the microwave, even if they are labeled “microwave-safe”. Plastics #1, #3, #6 and #7 should be used with varying to extreme caution, especially around food or drink. Of these, plastic #1 isn’t too terrible, but needs to be stored in cool environments and should not be reused."

Design flaw
This thing had a weird smell and a poor design. The hole you drink from is small and deep, as if you need a straw to actually use it. And you shouldn't need a straw for something like this. I'm not going to waterfall this thing around my office...RETURNED!

Gallon jug. Works.
Used this in my work truck to maintain a gallon a day of water goal. Stayed relatively cool going in and out of truck all day in Florida. Got the job done.

I'm gonna give it just 3 stars because while it is 1 gallon, and it's red, the top is basically unusable and you just have to screw it on and off to drink from.
