Fans will love it but presentation a missed opportunity
Combining the mystery board game Cluedo with Harry Potter sounds like a brilliant idea, Hogwarts and the Potter-world lend themselves perfectly for unsolved crimes. In this game ‘dark forces’ lead to the disappearance of one of the main characters. The players can take the role of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna or Neville to solve the mystery and to figure out what spell was thrown and what item was used to commit the crime.During the game players will have to gather several facts while moving around the board. Players can travel fast through the Potter world suing the ‘Floo Network’ while avoiding unlit fireplaces. You win the game by travelling to the Burrow and make correct accusation. It takes a little time to understand the 3 to 5 player game dynamics but it is not too demanding and the instruction are clear. Moreover the actual game play was quite exciting including for our 6 year old. In fact, it was quite amazing to see how it brought our family together for a great game session.Although we own and play many board games as a family, I never played the original version of Cluedo. So can’t make an exact comparisons. But a friend of our daughter who played with her explained to me that this is more fun and more sophisticated than the original Cluedo with the flow-network, moving rooms and fireplaces. Though I must say that this is the opinion of another die-hard Potter fan that would always prefer this version. The contents includes lots of game cads and tokens; 6 identity cards, 6 movers, 29 help cards, 32 dark deck cards, 21 mystery cards40 floo powder tokens, 6 suspect tokens, 6 items tokens. But also a game board, an envelope, a notepad and both a green and black die and a label sheet and instructions. The game is somewhat nicely presented. But frankly it’s not more than a common board game. And that is a shame as our daughter is a huge Potterhead who collects movie memorabilia and replica’s. Almost all of these are of good quality and look really authentic. Something similar could have been done with this game, that now is not much more than a standard colour-printed cardboard box, with cardboard game pieces. One of the attractions of board games to me, in particular as a child, were the many curious plastic game pieces, certainly the metal objects in particular that I saw in the Cluedo game. This game should have come in such a luxury, more authentic ‘Hogwarts’ version & I would have paid up for it.Hence only 4 stars, but still a good, entertaining game that I would recommend.

Love it!
I love this game, always had. And, with the version of Sherlock Holmes played by Benedict Cumberbatch, it's a dream. We have a lot of fun playing with it

A better game than the traditional Cluedo!
Bought for granddaughter’s 9th birthday. She loves it, and so did we when we got a chance to play it. Ok, the objects are only cardboard discs, not like the objects in the old Cluedo. Several playing tokens are cardboard discs which may get tatty in time. But the concept is brilliant. Floo powder to move from chimney to chimney, plus rotating dials that close off location entrances and reveal the Dark Mark that means penalty cards, and defence cards also. Extra twists not in the old game make it a much better game, more dependent on vagaries of chance as well as skill in deduction, so better for kids.

Great classic with a twist!
I bought this game as a gift to a HP fan and it was good fun for all of us. If you've played Cluedo before, the basic idea of the game is the same but it has a couple new bits that make it more interesting. I really liked the additions so this was a big positive for me. It initially took a while to go through the rules but once you start playing it, it's pretty simple and very similar to the original style. I think the pieces could look a bit more interesting though but this is a small point. It would have also been nice to have more squares to move around the board. I think it's a bit too easy to move around the board considering that you can roll a 7 and pretty much go into half of the locations. I'd probably give it a 4.5 star but overall still a really good theme on a classic board game!!

Minimum players - THREE. Disappointed as only two of us!
Major gripe is that the minimum number of players is three! Yes, it says it on the box so my bad, but, as a fan of the original Cluedo I assumed that minimum players would be two (like the original). Can't comment on any other aspect of it as I can't play it, there only being two of us!

Beautiful board, but.. what happened to the rest?
As a huge fan of the BBC Sherlock series, I knew from the moment I saw this board game in a comic shop in Birmingham, England, that I had to have it. Not wanting to spend $50 on a board game, I bought it instead online for closer to $40.Upon arrival, I ripped it open with much anticipation. The board itself is wonderful, as are the cards. Detailed, lovely descriptions of each of the characters and places. The board has rooms taken directly from the series -- Holmes' study, Baskerville Laboratory, etc. However, when I noticed the game pieces I was a bit taken a back. The characters weren't much more than plastic question marks with colored bases -- colors that didn't match up to the characters. Of all the colors, only four actually matched to the squares on the board, leaving us to use a yellow in place of a purple and so forth. The weapons feel as though they were sculpted from left over soda tins; the rope is a piece of plastic you'd find on the back of a toy soldier, if soldiers used rope to hang their enemies with. The game itself is fun, but other than the board and the cards and the box, the customization is rather lacking and not worth the close to $40 (American) price tag.As Holmes would say, "It's Elementary, my dear idiot. Put some effort into it."

It’s fun, straightforwards and is great for family time.
Bought this as a gift and my step mum loved it. After reading reviews I was a bit skeptical as people complained it was difficult but after reading the instructions it’s pretty straight forwards. It’s a great twist on the original cluedo with an extra few added steps like travelling with floo powder but all in all it was a great purchase and I highly recommend it.
