Victor DeLorenzo's masterpiece was PANCAKE DAY, made in 1996. This record is the first that he made after leaving the Violent Femmes, and it is not nearly as good, but any music from DeLorenzo is worth hearing, especially when there is so little of it out there. The key song on this album is "This Girl Has A Name," as it anticipates his later, greater music to come. The rest of the album finds DeLorenzo playing music for fun with his friends, which is what music is truly all about. There are a number of interseting cuts on here, such as "Hell Boxes," "Miss Miranda Walks Away," and others, which find DeLorenzo establishing himself as a unique songwriting voice. This album seems influenced equally by Brian Wilson and Andy Kaufman! To anyone interested in finding out what Victor DeLorenzo is all about, seek out PANCAKE DAY first. Hearing that masterpiece will probably make you want to hear as much of his music as you can. PETER COREY SENT ME is no PANCAKE DAY, but it is a unique album from a truly individual voice which deserves to be heard.
