The display is grainy it is like viewing through a very fine sieve
Bought this as an emergency replacement for a Lenovo that is being repaired that cost over 4 times the price so it may suffer from unfair comparison. I got the 8 GB RAM, AMD9-9400 proc, version for 399 pounds. The display is grainy it is like viewing through a very fine sieve. Your eyes adapt if it is your only display but if you switch to looking at a better one and back I think it will always be an issue. First issue after eventually getting it started (after refusing the default install settings to allow Microsoft to track my every keystroke) was that the wireless connection suddenly stopped picking up any signals - no networks detected in spite of several strong networks around. I restarted the machine. this took 15 minutes even though there was no windows update scheduled, it did not do an update it just gave some uninformative message 'Do not turn off your computer' with no progress bar and hung for 15 minutes. On restart the wireless networks were detectable again. Today I was installing a statistical package and the mouse pad went completely unresponsive. I closed all applications except the install using keyboard shortcuts, the mouse arrow came back but was still unresponsive so another restart was needed, the mouse pad came back operational. So far so bad. The machine is generally slow to open and even slow in the browser. I can't say if anything better is available out there for the price and am pretty happy with the functionality for 399 pounds given it is less than one quarter the cost of my main laptop.

OK - but operationally slow
Ratings for this kit have been distorted by buyers who confuse initial set-up and configuration timings with poor performance (any new PC should be left alone to update and configure for 24 hours - the original disk image is probably over a year old - its got to update 2 or 3 major Windows updates plus all the all other bundled software for goodness sake - it takes time and runs very slowly in the interim). Plus those new to windows 10 have blamed the hardware for the quirks of the software it runs. That said - it IS operationally slow. I would rate this kit as no better than the EIGHT year old laptop it replaced. The spec flatters to deceive. I paid £330 and got, well. a £330 laptop - ok for the basics but anyone expecting a power machine needs to, sadly, spend power machine money. If you want a basic laptop for a basic price this is ok - nothing more. Tip - search the web to discover how to disable 'Smartbyte', which Dell insist on reloading in the driver set. Disabling this load manager (deleting simply triggers a reload) does seem to improve performance a bit - but not much.

Worth the money
Bought this for the wife to do family history and general computer stuff on.She loves it, works very well and nice display.Worth the money.Shame as with all windows machines there was a number of software trials to get rid of.UPDATE. 17-Nov-2017Wife still happy with hers and I have bought a second one to use as a dedicated machine for my scanner. Not as fast as the Macs I normally use but excellent for the job I need it to do.Try not to get too higher expectations for this version, it is not high end but for simple tasks like Word processing, email and Internet usage it does an excellent job in my opinion.

MALFUNCTION DELL PRODUCT
I purchased this laptop with expectations that it will serve me the way similar productI bought in the past did. I was using Dell product before and the product did not give me any problem until I dropped it. I am surprised this product's problem of witching off and on in the course of use persists. I may not have a choice other than to request for a refund or I pick another better product. I did not bargain for this, a new Dell developing problem. I suspect it is a factory problem. I have to return it.

My new laptop.
Very happy with this purchase. Had spent a lot of time looking for what I wanted within my price range, and this was the winner. Ordered at 10-30pm on a Sunday evening, and it arrived safely mid-morning on the Tuesday. I am now spending a little time each day comparing the differences between Windows 7 (which I have on my dodgy desk-top) and Windows 10 on my new model. At 88 years of age my mind is not as agile as when I first started go use a computer 17 years ago, but I am having fun learning new tricks.

It's a Dell laptop!
Purchased as a replacement for a Dell desktop that was getting past it's best. Originally I would have given it 5 stars but for some reason the DVD tray will not open when sitting down on my desk. I can see the tray is not touching the desk surface as the rubber feet lift it up but unless I raise it by at least another few millimetres the tray will not open. Strange! After a while it continuously lost internet connection while my old Dell running Windows 7 would stay connected, so not due to my modem or ISP. By December I was having major problems with lots of blue screens and messages finally Windows would not load. Fortunately I had only backed up all my files two days earlier.Amazon were quick to replace it but now less than two months on I'm having trouble playing video and a blue screen with the message "It looks like Windows didn't load correctly" and "Restart your PC" keep appearing. However the DVD tray opens with the Notebook sitting on my desk unlike the other one.I addition on one occasion i couldn't shut it down for 2 hours as Windows 10 was downloading and the next day I couldn't go online for 40 minutes as it was setting up the downloads. (Whether this was due to the Notebook, Window 10 of both I don't know
