Great idea, cuts shapes pretty well but multiple failures- First, I purchased (bought it, did not receive it free in exchange for a review) a set of three and was supposed to get a heart, a star and a flower. I got a heart and 2 flowers. No bueno! So, I was eager to receive the set because I wanted to use the heart shaped cutter right away for the carrots in my chicken dumpling soup. I washed the cutter, washed and sliced my carrots into coins and got to work.The cutter is designed to allow you to cut 3-4 hearts then use the plunger on the opposite end to push the hearts out. Keeping the plunger pulled up so the cutter was an open tube made it awkward but not impossible use. It took a bit of pressure to cut out the shapes using fresh carrot coins and mine were not terribly thick. By the time I finished making a batch of carrot hearts the wire stem of the device was bending, the metal is very soft. This is NOT a sturdy tool made to last. In fact, I doubt that this cutter will last thru another 2 uses before the metal stem breaks. For 14 bucks this is totally unacceptable quality. I will be sending these back for a refund and purchasing a different type of cutter.The hearts are very cute. If you wanted to use this tool for only soft items like cheese, fruits, lunchmeat, clay, etc they would be ok but still awkward because of the plunger. Carrots will be the death of this thing. My advice is to avoid this set and invest in the tools that look more like miniature cookie cutters with plastic at the end to make holding/pushing the cutter easier.

These are fantastic for my picky eater. I easily cut through avocado and thick-sliced, raw carrots.
