Fun AND informative! My favorite kind of picture book!
If you are looking for an informative book for animal lovers, this one will be a hit! Dr. Sugar Glider meets with several patients who have come to her with their problems (a crocodile with a bellyache, a wildebeest whose mom expects her to run immediately, a really hungry anglerfish etc.).Dr. Sugar Glider gives them answers to their problems in the context of the main story.PLUS, there are sidebars with additional information about the creature or the creature's problem. I love layered texts like this because it gives younger readers a chance to learn by reading the story, while older kids enjoy both. It makes the kids enjoy the books for a much wider age range. As usual for a Jess Keating book, the information is kid-friendly with big hooks and an introduction to unique creatures, new words, and concepts for curious kids!I hope it becomes a series!

Book is not appropriate for young children: preschool-3rd Grade
This book is being touted as a book geared for children preschool aged through third grade. I disagree, Ms. Keating uses inappropriate verbiage for this age group. I posted a picture of the example that is most concerning to me. Also, the author uses some odd explanations for this age group. Example, ants “kidnapping” aphids. The term “herding” is more commonly used for this relationship in the entomology world. Just wanted parents to make sure they are aware that some of the content is for much older children.

Cute book with cool facts
Very cool concept of traveling dr helping out animals / highlighting interesting animal facts. Not really a cogent story but still an enjoyable read!
