Syncing issues keep this near-perfect textpad from being the best available on PS3
I've been looking for a keypad like this to make PS3 chat more convenient for a while. I picked up Sony's Wireless Keypad and was very disapppointed. It had some nice features like an on/off switch, on-screen battery indicator, and dedicated Friends List/New Message buttons, but small, non rubberized keys, no backlighting, and worthless "mousepad" feature made me get rid of it almost immediately. Which led me to this keypad. One one hand, it does a LOT of things better than the Sony keypad. The buttons are reasonably sized (even for someone with big, XL-glove hands like me) and have a nice rubberized feel to them instead of hard plastic. It's placed underneath the controller instead of above, which is a much more convenient & comfortable position for typing with thumbs. And this might be a small thing, but I use the Offical Sony Dualshock 3 charging station, which requires that you place charging plates on your controllers. I thought that these would prevent me from putting this textpad on, but it didn't! It fits very well on the controller even with the plates on, even better than the Sony one which, although it did fit, was a little wobbly. The ergonomics aren't bad either, you only have to slightly lessen your grip around the controller handles w/ your middle & ring fingers. At first glance, this thing seems like the perfect textpad! But one MAJOR thing makes this thing basically unusuable: it just doesn't sync well. On the first day it worked very well; when you see a solid red light on both the textpad & USB dongle connected to the PS3, that means everything's working fine. Don't get used to seeing that after the first day; since then I can't get this thing to work. I've tried taking the batteries out, disconnecting and reconnecting the dongle, and just waiting for it to autoshutoff & try again. Nothing's worked; at best I get the pad to work for maybe a full 3-seconds & then the red light starts flashing again. This thing has other flaws too: no backlight for playing @ night, no raised dimples on the "F" and "J" keys so you can type without looking, and somewhat confusing method for typing symbols (took a little while getting used to). I also would have liked to have an on/off switch instead of just waiting 5-10 mins for it to auto-shutoff. The included instructions are also not helpful at all for any of the sync issues above, or for even figuring out how to type symbols (and what does the "FN" button even do?).But these are minor & would be mostly forgivable if the keypad actually worked and it sadly just doesn't. I'd call this the best PS3 keypad on the market if the syncing issues weren't there. But as it is, I would not recommend this product. Avoid it at all costs; if you have extremely small hands the Sony keypad might work for you. It's lackluster for everyone else, but hey, at least it syncs consistently.

It has excellent battery life
It has excellent battery life. I've used it for approximately 24 non-consecutive hours and it's still going strong. The only downside is that it doesn't work off of the PS3 controller internal battery, it takes 2 AAAs. There's also no on/off switch, but it will turn off after about 10 minutes with no input. So far it's maintained a tight synch with the dongle and I haven't scanned any frequency wandering. All said and done I'm very satisfied as it's much more convenient to use than the official Sony chat pad, which is like the Enterprise.

Great addition to your Playstation Controller
This is a must if you use your PS3 to stream movies on Amazon Prime.Installing the keyboard is easy. It just snaps in place on the controller. It has a dongle that plugs into the PS3, just like a computer keyboard. It can be left in place, and does not interfere with the charging port.As long as your batteries are good, it will connect when you press the SYMB button on the keyboard. When you have a solid red light, you're all set.No more pointing and selecting one letter at a time on the movie search screen! I'm not a gamer, but I'm sure it's easier to enter text while playing a game, too.

Descent but batteries and synchronizartion issues kill it.
They key pad is great in some aspect; however, it does definitely have its down-side.POSITIVES:1. Location of the keypad on the bottom of the controller gives it a comfortable and easy to use feel. The keypad also locks nicely on the controller and there is little wiggle room for it to move around.2. Price - you really can't go wrong with buying a 15 dollar item that you may potentially enjoy.3. The keys are placed in a manner that makes it very easy to muscle-memorize, meaning you can type without looking down at it.NEGATIVES:1. The main issue I had was the synchronization. For some reason, sometimes when I use it, it immediately syncs with no issue at all. However, other times it either can take up to 10 minutes to sync or not sync at all.... This is very frustrating and I cannot figure out why it does this.2. Power - There is no power switch, so you must take the batteries out if you want to shut it off. Also, the fact that it takes batteries and doesn't have a charging port is kind of ridiculous in this day and age.3. Buttons - Even though the buttons are nicely placed, the way they press down is not that great.... Instead of having a crisp give-point like the controller buttons (meaning when you press the button down you can feel it collapse and know that you actually hit the button), it has a "mooshy" type feeling to it and sometimes you might think you hit a key, however you actually did not.

Love it - so much better than the Sony keypad
I had purchased the Sony keypad for the PS3 controller to use with FFXIV ARR. I found typing on it was slow and cumbersome. In searching for a better keypad I came across this one. I LOVE IT. The keypad hangs on the bottom, and as many reviews have pointed out, it is a more convenient position for quick typing. In addition, the keys are soft and sensitive enough that a slight press and your on your way to typing your next letter. The keys are a decent size to accommodate larger fingers and I no longer have to use my nails to press the buttons like the Sony keypad. It takes 2 AAA batteries and comes with a wireless USB plug. Set up was basically plugging in the USB and putting batteries in. It is the best option I've found so far if you do not want to have to juggle a keyboard and controller but would rather have a keypad on the controller. 5 Stars!

Pure Utility
Does the job, easy to use. USB dongle plugs into PS3 so syncing is painless. Device turns itself off after almost 4 mins.
