AMC Cars: 1954-1987 (An Illustrated History)
I gave this book three stars for several reasons. The presentation seems to be facts reprinted from magazine articles rather than research. It is also written and presented as though it came straight out of "Motor Trend". The photographs are black and white, the quality is poor and lack detail. Also, there are few, very few of the vehicle interiors and instrument panels illustrated.Page 93 refers to the styling changes to the headlights on the 1974 Matador Coupe. The only photograph of this model is the back end of the car on page 97. Lack of detail is evident throughout the book. The AMC Pacer was originally designed to be equipped with a rotary engine. This fact is omitted. The high performance Rebel should be "The Machine". Note: look at the badges on the car or Google search it!If you are looking for a history of AMC vehicles, try another book. This book by Patrick R. Foster is a disappointment.

The photos are black and white.
I should've read the other reviews before purchasing this. The pictures are black and white, not color. Very strange.

Lavishly illustrated, readable, and technically coherent, this large format, 158 page softbound book is a must for every AMC enthusiast as well as car buffs in general. Illustrated with over 300 black and white photos, the rise, success, and demise of AMC is covered in sufficient detail to provide an excellent overview of this great but short-lived American car company. Because this book was probably designed for a certain price point, the many originally color photos used in this book are all printed in black and white which is perhaps the only letdown to what is otherwise a fine publication.

Nice overview of AMC cars
Nice overview of AMC cars, even the ugly ones (and there were plenty). Liked to see all the cars AMC managed to put on the road with how little they had in resources. It covers a wide range, but you won't get many pictures of any one model. So if you are into just particular models of Ramblers or the AMX, then you might want to pick up a book on just those. Overall a nice book for fan of American Motors.

About a rare make
This is one of the few books on the American Motors Corporation, unfortunately. The company had an interesting history with its highs and lows before it went out and deserves at least one ultimate paperwork on it. I bought it because I wanted technical and production information on the Pacer. And exactly this is not the topic of the book. It is a documentation with very minimal text (mostly the straight written history from the beginning of the consortium to the end in the nest of Chrysler and Renault), no trivia, no frame articles, no test results, no tech data or detailed figures. On the "plus" side of the book are the nice b/w photos with cars shown. The quality of the book is okay for the price. At least, I am still waiting for the guy/girl writing the fundamental, colored, illustrated book on American Motors...

Awesome book!
I got this AMC book for my Rambler-loving Dad for Christmas, and he keeps it nearby at all times. It traces the history of AMC from start to finish, has lots of awesome black and white photos, and tons of good information without being boring. The only downside? After reading this book myself, I desperately want an AMC Hornet hatchback. Good luck finding one!

You can tell the author loves these cars and he tells us why.
I've enjoyed the author's writing in Old Cars Weekly for many years. This book is well-researched, clear large photos with explanations to point out all the uniqueness of the AMC vehicles.

So Much I Didn't Know About AMC Cars!
This book has helped me fill many gaps in my knowledge about the many different marques that made up AMC Cars. Especially the earlier vehicles from the 50's and early 60's. Hudson, Nash, Rambler! Great to be able to understand where they came from, how they were integrated and what happened as the car markets changed and the names started to disappear. Sad as it always is to see great car marques come to an end whatever way that happens. Still this is another book that will keep me fascinated for years to come.
