American Metal #3018W18-R 18" White Base Diffuser

I like the quality of this diffuser and it's appearance, however it doesn't have the white tab on the vent control as pictured. There is just a metal piece that sticks out from the unit to control the air flow. I feel it is dangerous because children could fall against the diffuser or accidentally step against it and get cut. I ordered a second diffuser to replace the first one since I thought the knob for the unit fell off before shipment (since there was no knob (tab) in the box it came in) but the second diffuser came the same. It arrived with no tab on the metal. I called the company directly (Hart & Cooley) that makes this diffuser, and they informed me that this newly designed diffuser does not come with the plastic tab on the vent control. I think that is crazy! We installed the unit as it was, but my husband made a small wooden knob to put on end of the metal protrusion used to control the air flow so no one gets hurt on it.

Perfect fit. The big box store version was not deep enough and left a 1/4 inch gap in front of the register. This one covered the entire opening perfectly. The lever on the front is a little sharp but didn't matter as we do not open or close this vent. The pictures are a little confusing as to what the louver pattern is. The item received had a different louver pattern then the picture of the the item on Amazon at the time I ordered it. However it appears the picture may have been updated since. Only register like this in the house so we didn't care what it looked like but maybe disappointing to someone trying to match existing registers.

I was trying to match other diffusers in my house, one of which I recall finding an exact match with Ameriflow several years ago. . American Metal and Ameriflow are supposed to be the same product, same company; the American Metal product pictured appeared to be a match, but the center triangular opening is partially covered by a label in at least one of the photos and this masks the pattern, and it was not a match to the rest of my house, so I had to return them. I was very happy with the return process and the diffusers themselves appeared much better quality than the also similar Truaire ones at the local Home Depot. Unfortunately, I am still searching.

I ordered this product because of its extended depth; as others have noted, the big-box stores offer baseboard diffusers that left a small (<1/4 inch) but noticeable gap between the metal and my hardwood floor. This did solve that problem, but I offer two stars because of the following two reasons: 1) This diffuser, while white, does *not* match the photo. It's a different design, and as such, it doesn't match my other diffusers. 2) As other reviews have pointed out, the lever used to adjust the damper does not have a plastic cap and is awkward and sharp. Not ideal.I'd be happy if I wasn't misled.

This is a little deeper than the standard ones. Missing the decorative knob on the diffuser. Has an unfinished look due to that.

Had issues finding the correct size to correctly replace the old ones that had seen better days. Removing the old showed where our hardwood had been resealed; needed to retain that extra half-inch so as to not have that showing.Diffusers at the local box stores had 2.75" depth; needed the 3" that this model provides. One area of concern is that the vent control lever is quite sharp--I'm hoping no one kicks it in bare feet!

This baseboard register meets all of my needs. Some revues indicated that it is made with flimsy sheet mettle, however I disagree. The sheet nettle is plenty strong for what is basically a builder grade heat register. The construction is fine and the dimensions are right on with my only criticism being that the lever to adjust the baffle is not topped with a plastic cover.

I needed this vent specifically for the 3 inch width as opposed to the standard 2.75 in. So options are limited.This item isn't the same as what's pictured the design is different and there isn't a plastic nob. This item was damaged as you can see from the pictures with scrapes in the corner and on the nob. It also didn't come with any screws like it says it does in the description. Shipping takes so long and we have to finish our project by Christmas so I'm forced to just accept what we were given. Pretty disappointed.
